King To Forfeit 4 Boys Games

The King boys basketball team has forfeited its first four games of the season for use of an ineligible player, Athletic Director Frank Oliver confirmed.

The Lions forfeited wins against Lennard (74-31), Armwood (67-37), Tampa Bay Tech (68-23) and Brandon (65-27). Oliver said he informed the schools last week.
Once undefeated at 6-0, the Lions are now to 2-4.

Coach Sam Lanier declined comment.

Armwood, Tech and Brandon are district opponents, which could potentially hurt the Lions' chances of earning the top seed in Class 5A-District 8. Bloomingdale and Newsome each have one district loss.

PLANT-LINCOLN TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets for Saturday's Class 4A title game will be available at Plant High beginning today.

Anyone interested in purchasing advance tickets to Saturday's game between Tallahassee Lincoln and Plant may buy them at the school from noon to 2 p.m. through Thursday. Tickets will be sold in the main office and on driver's education range, between the football and baseball fields.

Tickets are $10 and limited to five per person.

LATTIMORE COMMITS: One visit was all Justin Lattimore needed. Before leaving the University of Illinois today, the Gaither tight end let the coaching staff know he will be joining them next year. Lattimore verbally committed during his weekend visit to the campus.

Lattimore picked Illinois over Iowa, Ball State, Florida Atlantic and a couple of other Division I schools that offered scholarships. Earlier in the football season, Lattimore committed to Iowa, but when Illinois came through with an offer, he decommitted.

The senior, who also played defensive end for the Cowboys, led the team in receiving this season.

"Overall, I was just comfortable there," Lattimore said. "It seems like a really good environment for me to spend the next four years."

HOLIDAY TOURNAMENTS: The Berkeley Prep boys basketball team is hosting the Outback Steakhouse Invitational Thursday through Saturday. Bloomingdale, Plant, St. Pete Catholic, Ridgewood and Calvary Christian are area teams scheduled to participate. Games start at 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and the championship will be played Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

MILESTONE: Durant senior shooting guard A.J. Garden scored 26 points on Saturday against Spoto to become the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,178 career points.
