An Oldsmar insurance company has donated more than 130 bicycles for needy children in time for the Christmas holidays, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
The bicycles – donated by Kevin and Debbie Bechtel of Life Brokerage partners, 3982 Tampa Road – will be loaded by deputies into their squad cars this afternoon for delivery, the sheriff's office said.
Other gifts, such as food, clothing and toys, will also be delivered.
The bicycles were requested by children during the "Pinellas Sheriff's Christmas Sharing Project," the sheriff's office said. As part of the program, employees of the sheriff's office submit the names of children, crime victims and families who need help over the holidays.
The bicycles were donated, but the clothing and toys were purchased last week with money raised during the sheriff's 15th annual Ride and Run With the Stars event Dec. 6 at Fort DeSoto Park.
