Winter storms in the Midwest and Northeast are causing delays out of Tampa International Airport.
Delays of one to two hours are being reported for outgoing flights, and more are expected tonight. Boston was hit with a mix of snow, sleet and rain this morning, and Chicago is cleaning up after a snowstorm.
According to an online search, flights delayed at TIA are Delta's flight 1450 to Boston, which was to leave at 11:30 a.m. but didn't take off until 1:48, and Southwest's flight 3227, set to leave at 2:35 p.m. and rescheduled twice for departure, 4:35 p.m. and then 4:45.
Snow and ice Tuesday night into today have caused indefinite delays of an evening AirTran flight to Dayton, Ohio, and an afternoon Spirit Airlines flight to Detroit. Flights to Newark (N.J.) Liberty and Washington Dulles international airports also are delayed.
Today at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, a few flights were canceled.
Flights arriving today at Tampa International mostly were running on time, according to online information from TIA, but that has begun to change, with some flights from Denver, Detroit and Boston coming in late.
The National Weather Service says a storm is expected to move into Illinois and Michigan on Thursday with ice and rain. Heavy snow is predicted for northern New England and northern New York.
Check with airlines for up-to-date flight information.
