A burglar trying to steal Christmas presents placed under a tree in a Bradenton house was foiled this afternoon by the homeowner's teen son, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
Kevin Byrne, 19, scuffled with an armed man deputies say broke in to the house at Second Avenue Drive West about 1:50 p.m.
When the fight continued in the living room, Byrne stabbed the man in the left side, deputies say. The man ran from the house and headed east, down the street and into the woods, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies and canine units continue to search for the burglar.
He is described as white, in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and braces. He was wearing a ski mask, gray shirt and was armed with a chrome revolver.
