About a dozen residents watched as St. Petersburg firefighters battled a small blaze at the Brandywine Apartment complex near the Tyrone Square Mall just before 1 a.m. today.
The fire started in a laundry room on the first floor at 6367 16th Terrace N., Assistant Fire Chief Bill Jolley said. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out the flames, he said.
"The concrete walls kept the fire from spreading," he said. Firefighters used fans to disperse the smoke, then allowed residents back inside the apartments.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the fire marshal's office does not think it's suspicious.
