PALM HARBOR - A local animal shelter is taking puppies and dogs from a shelter in Georgia that experienced a range of hardships – including kennels flooded because of wet winter weather.
This afternoon, the local organization, the Suncoast Animal League of Palm Harbor, is expected to take in three dozen puppies and six dogs transported by the league from Georgetown, Ga., said Rick Chaboudy, executive director of Suncoast.
According to Chaboudy, many of the kennels at Angel Dog Rescue in Georgetown have been flooded as the result of an unusually wet winter. In addition, the Angel Dog Rescue has seen a spike in the number of household pets dropped off as owners find themselves financially unable to take care of them any longer.
