RIVERVIEW - A violent attack in the parking lot of the just-opened Green Iguana Bar & Grill in Riverview early today left one man critically injured and another being sought by Hillsborough County deputies. It was the bar's grand opening.

"He's not deceased," said sheriff's Lt. Mark Corso, who is supervising the investigation in the District 4 office. "But he's in critical. He's unresponsive."

The sheriff's office has released the name of the victim: 27-year-old Sredrick Trevor Powe of Brandon. Powe remains in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital, the sheriff's office said this afternoon.

He said Powe is a large person, as tall as 6-foot-6. The attacker was described as being 5-foot-9 and about 155 pounds and may go by the name Pedro.

"It was just a fight in a parking lot, and we really don't know what the hassle was about," Corso said. "There was a large group of people."

Powe was leaving the bar at 3 a.m. when the attack happened. The attacker struck the man in the head and then stomped on the victim's chest when he was on the ground. No weapons were involved, Corso said.

Powe was unresponsive when deputies arrived and was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition, said sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway.

Investigators continued to look for clues and interview people hours later. They say they have a strong lead on the attacker and that an arrest likely will be made soon.

The bar is at 6264 Winthrop Town Centre Ave. in Riverview. It is the sixth Green Iguana in the Tampa Bay area.
