Pinellas Park police are looking for at least one man who shot and killed a 16-year-old boy at his home Thursday evening.
Jeremy Lamar Long, who attended Richard L. Sanders School in Pinellas Park, died at Northside Hospital sometime after 8:30 p.m., when police found him shot at his home, Lt. Paul Andrews said.
Investigators do not know what caused the shooting at 4860 81st Avenue North. "Some kind of commotion" erupted near the front of the house between Long and the other man while Long's mother, younger sister, uncle and three friends were in the house, Andrews said.
It was not clear where the other people were when Long was shot. Police were interviewing several people late into the night.
Police found Long in a bedroom after a 911 call. Witnesses told detectives two or three people encountered Long at or just inside the front door, but that one person was in the house threatening the occupants.
The gunman escaped in a car stopped along 81st Avenue North, which headed west to 49th Street, Andrews said.
Police described the gunman as a dark-skinned black man about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds; at the time, he was wearing a silver hooded sweatshirt over his head.
The car is a silver 1991 to 1995 two-door Honda Civic or Accord with dark-tinted windows and a loud exhaust, Andrews said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at (877) 873-8477 or visit www.crimestoppersofpinellas.org for a possible reward.
