TAMPA - Investigators from Hillsborough County Animal Services charged a man and a woman today with felony animal cruelty, saying they failed to seek help for an injured dog.
Harold J. Gibson, 50, and Cheryl Gibson, 47, of Wimauma are also charged with five counts each of improper confinement of animals, a misdemeanor. Both were held at the Orient Road Jail this evening on $4,500 bail each, records show.
According to an affidavit, an animal-services investigator responded to 5913 Bassa St., Wimauma, on Dec. 13 in response to a complaint of an injured dog. The investigator found "a severely injured dog," the document states.
The affidavit does not describe the dog or its injuries.
The Gibsons, who owned the dog, had prior knowledge of its injuries and intentionally refused veterinary care, causing the dog to suffer, the affidavit states.
The dog was euthanized, the affidavit states.
The misdemeanor charges stem from four other dogs found chained or caged on a condemned piece of property without sufficient food, water or shelter, the affidavit states.
Investigators arrested the Gibsons about 1:45 p.m. today at the office of Hillsborough County Animal Services, 440 N. Falkenburg Road.
