With a 2-year-old in his vehicle, a Clearwater man led police on a chase Wednesday evening after he attempted to buy drugs during an undercover narcotics operation, authorities say.
Kevin Jefferson, 36, was charged with, among other things, child abuse and the attempted purchase of cocaine, said Elizabeth Watts, spokeswoman for Clearwater's public safety departments.
Jefferson attempted to buy some drugs during the undercover operation, which took place in the North Greenwood neighborhood, Watts said. When an officer tried to stop him, Jefferson tried hitting the officer with his vehicle, she said.
Jefferson then drove off and tried ramming several squad cars before he was forced off the road at South Lake Avenue and Belleair Road, she said.
Six other men were arrested during the undercover narcotics operation, Watts said.
