A St. Petersburg restaurant reported a small fire this morning that started at the deep-fryers.
A manager at the Long John Silver's, 2190 34 St. N., was operating three deep-fryers and walked away to work in another part of the restaurant about 9:30 a.m., according to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue.
The manager, Lawanda Ford, smelled smoke and returned to the kitchen, where a fryer was burning. She shut off gas to the fryers and the fire died, authorities said.
Fire crews arrived at 9:39 a.m. and ventilated the restaurant. Fire inspector Mike Medley walked through the restaurant and found multiple fire-safety violations.
There were no customers in the restaurant and no one was injured, authorities said.
There was no damage to the restaurant.
