TAMPA - Federal prosecutors today released copies of evidence in the case of a former University of South Florida student who was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in federal prison for providing material support to terrorists.
Ahmed Mohamed posted a video on YouTube in which he demonstrated how to use a remote-controlled toy to detonate a bomb. He said he wanted to help "martyrs" attack American troops overseas.
Prosecutors introduced numerous videos and documents into evidence during the lengthy sentencing hearing. Some of those items were made available Thursday after local media outlets, including The Tampa Tribune and News Channel 8, petitioned the court. The rest were released today.
Among the items made public today were letters Mohamed wrote to deputies in the Hillsborough County Jail and to his parents. Authorities also released videos found in Mohamed's laptop computer showing the firing of rockets in the Middle East and coalition troops being targeted.
