TAMPA - One of two Fort Lauderdale men arrested in a two-county law enforcement pursuit has been charged with attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, jail records show.
Demetrius Perry, 23, was transferred today from Pasco County to Orient Road Jail, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said.
Perry also faces charges including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and aggravated fleeing to elude.
The incident began Thursday morning with the theft of a pair of purses in Lutz, and sparked a chase through Hillsborough and Pasco.
Along North Dale Mabry Highway, four deputies shot at least a combined dozen rounds at a rented Saturn Vue driven by Perry, officials said. The Saturn sped north into Pasco, where Perry and his passenger, Terence Mason, 31, were arrested.
Mason was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and treated for a gunshot wound to a hand. He faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
No one else was injured.
