Published: December 19, 2008

TAMPA - Animals stuck in the county shelter need more than a cup of food.

"County budgets don't cover most of the comfort items, but, in fact, we find that many of these are necessities in order for us to do our jobs," said Marti Ryan, community coordinator for Hillsborough County Animal Services.

To meet critters' needs, the Animal Angel Tree is set up at the Falkenburg Road shelter. All it needs is people willing to play Santa.

Along with toys and bedding, the shelter is accepting money for a medical fund and for food that will be passed on to needy pet owners, Ryan said. Gifts can be dropped off at the shelter and checks can be mailed to 440 Falkenburg Road, Tampa FL 33619. Call (813) 744-5660 for information.
