PLANT CITY - Santa will make his annual pre-Christmas appearance this evening in the streets of downtown.
The Plant City Christmas Parade, originally scheduled for Dec. 5, was canceled hours before its start because of a massive manhunt for a slaying suspect. It was rescheduled for 6 p.m. today.
The parade units will line up at Collins and Alsobrook streets and head north on Collins and east on Reynolds Street before disbanding on Michigan Avenue.
Last year's Christmas parade was marred by the death of a 9-year-old Inverness boy. Jordan "Booka" Hays was caught under the wheels of a church float as he helped dispense candy from the float.
After his death, the city commission discouraged the distribution of candy and beads at parades, but parade organizers have said they will allow goodies to be distributed as long as they are handed out and not thrown into the crowd.
