TAMPA - A longtime Colliers Arnold executive who helped build the company into one of the Bay area's leading commercial real estate firms is leaving Florida.
J. Patrick Duffy, Colliers Arnold's president, has resigned after 25 years with the Tampa-based real estate firm. He said he has other opportunities in real estate, perhaps joining two of his brothers at United Country Real Estate of Kansas City, Mo.
Though undecided about his next position, Duffy said it will be out of state so he doesn't compete with Colliers Arnold.
Colliers Arnold has 190 employees, including 65 real estate professionals, at offices in Clearwater, Tampa, Orlando and Fort Myers. It recorded transactions valued at $1.03 billion in 2007, according to its Web site.
Colliers Arnold is a partner in Colliers International, a global real estate firm with more than 267 offices in 57 countries.
Duffy and Colliers Arnold's management team had some differences about what direction the firm should move in, Duffy said. Among them: his desire for a more decentralized management structure, he said.
Duffy, company president since 1991, said he has been spending much of his time driving to the firm's Florida offices.
He said he is leaving on good terms with his longtime business partner, Colliers Arnold Chief Executive Officer Lee Arnold.
Duffy expects to leave for his next venture early next year. His wife and children will stay in the Bay area until the end of the school year.
"I just feel like it's time for me to take on a new challenge," Duffy said.
