A 51-year-old Dundee man, who had already been served with an order of protection against him, showed up at his ex-wife's house armed Saturday night, killing her and seriously wounding her first ex-husband before turning the gun on himself, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

The incident began shortly after 6 p.m., Judd said.

Khemraj Dhani showed up at 706 Adams Ave. in Dundee, broke out a window next to the door, stuck his arm in and began randomly firing a semi-automatic handgun, Judd says.

According to Judd:

Dhani's 17-year-old daughter, who was on the couch, jumped up, ran into a bathroom, locked the door and climbed out to safety.

Dhani then entered the house, found his ex-wife Kalowti Dhani, 49, and shot and killed her. He then shot her first ex-husband, who was visiting the home. Dhani then fatally shot himself in the head.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the first ex-husband lying outside the home.
Deputies screamed at him to put his hands up.

"He told them he couldn't put his hands up because he had been shot," Judd said.

At this point, a deputy dragged the man a half a block to where an ambulance was waiting while another deputy covered him. The Polk SWAT team was called out, and when they entered the home, they found Dhani and his ex-wife dead.

Judd says he could not identify what kind of weapon was used.

"It is still laying there in the house," he says.

The man outside the home was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in "exceptionally critical condition," says Judd.

Judd did not immediately have details about what sparked the shooting or why Kalowti Dhani had obtained an order of protection against Khemraj Dhani.

"Things are still sketchy," he says. "We are talking to family and friends now, trying to work up the background.
