Tampa Bay area men with a certain prostate condition are being recruited for a National Cancer Institute study.
Researchers at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center are recruiting men, 30 to 80, who have been diagnosed with the pre-cancer condition HGPIN for the one-year study. According to the researchers, participants will take a pill made from substances in green tea or a placebo for 12 months.
The purpose of the study is to see whether the pill can prevent progression of HGPIN to prostate cancer. The study is looking for safe medicines or nutritional supplements that can prevent the progression of pre-cancer conditions or early cancers to prostate cancer, researchers say.
Participants can have no prior history of other cancers (other than non-melanoma skin cancer), no history of liver disease, are able and willing to take the study drug and comply with scheduled monthly visits for one year. For details, call (813) 745-6046.
