Tampa - Metropolitan Ministries says there will be children without anything under the tree this year if donations to the group don't increase quickly.
A news release says more than 4,600 toys, especially those for infants and teens, are needed to fulfill needs
Food items, including cereal, turkeys, yams, canned fruit, also are in short supply.
"We have been overwhelmed with support this community has showed for their neighbors in need but we continue to struggle with keeping up with the demand," Morris Hintzman, president of Metropolitan Ministries said in a statement.
The Minstries' holiday center in Plant City began distributing food and toys today.
Donations can be dropped off until 8 p.m. at the 2002 N. Florida Ave. Monetary donations can be made on their Web site at www.metromin.org.
