TALLAHASSEE - A Department of Children & Families internal review found some managers at the agency's Tallahassee computer complex used racist slurs, creating a hostile work environment.
An internal memo obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat said the review found "harassing conduct" including "racial slurs, derogatory remarks about particular ethnic groups and comments about cultural habits."
The memo said the environment at the Northwood Centre is "hostile and offensive."
DCF Secretary George Sheldon said he is assigning a person to the office to handle any complaints.
He told the paper he was "disappointed" and "outraged" at the conduct and is awaiting recommendations from his staff on how to proceed.
Complains about a hostile environment started in June when an employee said she heard that a manager used a word derogatory to blacks at a management meeting.
