CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - It's the 40th anniversary of the start of a mission that sent humans around the moon for the first time and set the stage for the first landing on the moon.

Apollo 8 blasted off on Dec. 21, 1968. Astonauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and Bill Anders became the first humans to circle the moon on Dec. 24.

To commemorate the day, three residents of the International Space Station will broadcast a message on NASA television. The message first aired on Friday and will air again on Tuesday.
