TAMPA - Ridgewood jumped to an 11-0 lead and spent the rest of the game trying to hold on in a 72-67 win against Bloomingdale in the final of the Berkeley Prep Outback Steakhouse Invitational on Saturday.
The Rams (9-2) had everything under control as tournament MVP Lukas Poderis dominated the boards and the perimeter as the Rams ran to a 36-30 halftime lead, but Bloomingdale (9-2) dominated the third quarter and tied it early in the fourth after Callum Townsend hit a running one-hander and hit the free throw after being fouled.
That's when Poderis took over.
"We kind of let down and we can't do that," Poderis said. "We can play better than we did, but it was a different situation than we have been in this year. We started out slow in the second half, but we didn't give up."
Ridgewood coach Gary Anders said that he knew Bloomingdale wasn't going away.
"We knew they were going to challenge us," Ander said. "We just knew we had to find a way to make a stop once they started to make a run. For a while we couldn't find an answer and they scored on us and made it tough. We knew they were a great team."
Bloomingdale coach Josh Chapin said that he hopes to see Ridgewood later on down the road.
"They are a great team," Chapin said. "They play hard. That was a tough game, but we played well."
