Had it not been for the food writing of Jeff Houck, I am 1,000 percent positive I would no longer be a subscriber to The Tampa Tribune. The paper has dismissed all of the columnists I have read for years. You've had tons of messages about them, so you know who I am talking about.

Your lead column in the Dec. 14 Views section comparing the Trib to the St. Pete Times opened my eyes. Thank you.

Every day I read the Tribune, as well as the Wall Street Journal (yes, I admit, I have seen the WSJ articles run a day or two later in Trib. No problem.). If I didn't receive my national/international news elsewhere, I'm sure I would have canceled my subscription by now. I'll give you more time, because I love the Tribune and am praying you will continue to succeed in these troubling economic times.

Most Sundays I do read the Times. I'm one of those crazy drivers at the major intersections waving my dollar frantically out the window at the guys donning their bright lime green T-shirts.

I've never had the guts to subscribe to the Times Sunday paper, as I felt it would be a betrayal. Weird psychology, I know. Just bear with me. Because I do truly want to see the Trib thrive.

I will close this message just as I opened it: with a message about Jeff Houck.

I do not know the guy, and this is utterly not important to me. What is imperative, however, is that I am able to continue subscribing to the Tribune with confidence knowing that my All-Time Favorite columnist will remain entertaining both me and my husband with his humor, insightful commentary, interviews, etc.

BTW, I am not Jeff's mother, sister, aunt, wife, god-mother, mistress, neighbor, former teacher, pet hamster, or otherwise. Just a very loyal reader.
