Work Toward A More Beautiful New Year

Published: December 22, 2008

There's a new year around the corner, and that means it's time to make - or renew - some beauty resolutions.

I'll admit, I'm still struggling with one of my biggest 2008 resolutions. More than likely, I'll put it on my list - once again - in 2009.

I'm trying to keep my hands off my face. Specifically, my zits (I know, ewwwww). My inability to leave those pesky pimples alone isn't good for my skin. I know what it does to my face. The evidence is stamped on my forehead and cheeks. Every time I visit my aesthetician she reminds me of my failure and scolds me.

As I said, it's a work in progress.

I have managed to uphold a couple of other beauty resolutions, though: I always remove my makeup before bed, including my neck and decolletage, as part of my skincare regimen. And I wear sunscreen every day.

I've also gotten a lot pickier about what I buy. I have a weakness for lip gloss, but I refuse to purchase any until I use up the ones I have or they go bad, which has never happened.

Now the whole concept of resolutions is getting pretty passe, and none more so than beauty declarations, but so what? At least they're more likely to be addressed than the lose weight/get fit/stop smoking resolutions - though when you think about it, those are beauty boosters, too.

Beauty resolutions can be offbeat, fun or serious. Take a minute to think what yours might be for 2009. Jot them down, even. Are you going to floss more? Take better care of your skin? Stop biting your fingernails? (That was on my list this year, too.)

Next year, I plan to stop stressing (so much), get better sleep (not just more sleep, but better sleep) and stop obsessing about things I can't change.

I'd love to know your beauty resolutions. Now is a better time to work them out than at midnight on New Year's Eve.

Happy New Year!
