Three men dumped a large pile of old automobile tires onto a St. Petersburg street Sunday night, police say.

Officers arrested the driver, Fernada Lynn Hurst, on a felony littering charge.

At 8:12 p.m. Sunday, a man in the 2300 block of Emerson Avenue South saw the illegal dumping, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. The people dumping the tires had 2001 Freightliner truck with an 18-wheel trailer with the words "Southern Cal Transport" on it.

There were 100 or more tires, officers say.

Two of the men saw the witness and left.

Hurst, meanwhile, left in the truck, Police said. The witness told police which way the vehicle went and the license plate number.

Officers saw the truck going north on Interstate 275 and stopped it at the Kennedy Boulevard exit.

"Hurst told the officers that he worked for Integrated Waste Services, but admitted he was free-lancing with the company's truck when he committed the illegal dumping of the tires," police said.

He was booked at Orient Road Jail. No further details were available.
