NORMAN, Okla. - Sam Bradford is back in his comfort zone, hanging out with his Oklahoma teammates.
He is happiest when he's just "one of the guys," quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel said. That, however, is becoming harder to do.
The sophomore quarterback won another honor Monday when he was voted college football player of the year by The Associated Press. Bradford already captured the Davey O'Brien Award and Heisman Trophy.
Now he's home after a whirlwind trip to New York, and while he appreciates all the recognition there's a BCS title showdown with Florida waiting Jan. 8. It's time to return to the routine again.
"It was just another day at practice, another huddle, another play," he said Monday. The practice was his first since undergoing surgery on his left, nonthrowing hand earlier this month.
In winning the AP award, Bradford beat out the same two QBs he did for the Heisman - Colt McCoy of Texas and Tim Tebow of Florida.
Bradford received 27 votes from the AP media panel that votes in the weekly poll. He was followed by McCoy with 17 votes. Tebow, who won the award last year, had 16 votes this time. Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree had two votes.
EASTERN MICHIGAN: The school introduced Ron English, 40, as coach, making him the fifth black head coach in major college football. He was Louisville's defensive coordinator this season.
LATE SUNDAY: Michael McGee blocked a potential game-tying field-goal attempt in overtime, lifting Southern Mississippi (7-6) to a 30-27 comeback victory against Troy (8-5) in the New Orleans Bowl.
Richardson May Move To Safety
ORLANDO - Florida State's D'Vontrey Richardson will be listed on Florida State's depth chart as a quarterback but Saturday's Champs Sports Bowl might represent his final game at the position.
Richardson, a third-year sophomore, played baseball during his freshman year at FSU and he plans to rejoin the baseball team this spring. His plans to play baseball could mean that his days as a quarterback are finished.
"After this week I think I'm going to start thinking more about playing safety, really," Richardson said.
•Seminoles junior WR Preston Parker, who has been nursing an ankle injury since FSU's loss to Florida, said Monday he's questionable for the Champs Sports Bowl.
