ODESSA - Two people were killed and one seriously injured this morning in a head-on collision in Pasco County that investigators say was caused by one driver going the wrong way on State Road 54, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Donald P. Holes, 52, of Jacksonville, who the FHP said was heading east in one of the westbound lanes of S.R. 54, died at the scene.
Ernest Flanagan, 77, of New Port Richey was taken to University Community Hospital in Tampa, where he died. Rose L. Flanagan, 86, of New Port Richey, who was a passenger in his car, is in serious condition at St. Joseph's Hospital.
The accident happened about 5:10 a.m. near Altamont Lane, just west of the Suncoast Parkway.
Based on preliminary information, FHP reported that Holes' 1989 Toyota crashed head-on into the westbound, 2006 Cadillac driven by Flanagan, FHP reported.
The westbound lanes of S.R. 54 were closed for about three hours while the accident was investigated, FHP reported.
