The Duchess ***
Keira Knightley corsets up again to play Georgiana Spencer, notorious ancestress of the late Princess Diana, in this adaptation of the biography by Amanda Foreman. Georgiana became a fashion plate and celebrity after her unhappy marriage to an older, colder man (the Duke of Devonshire, played by Ralph Fiennes), but comes across as a somewhat tragic figure.
PG-13, 110 minutes
Eagle Eye *½
For those who prefer to explore the modern surveillance state in the guise of a typical action movie, this thriller fits the bill. Shia LaBeouf is a guy who starts getting bossy phone calls from a female voice, drawing him into a web of chase scenes and explosions that probably tie into some vast technological conspiracy. Michelle Monaghan is along for the ride.
PG-13, 120 minutes
Ghost Town **
It may sound like "The Sixth Sense" meets "Ghost," but this grown-up rom com about a dentist who develops the ability to hear dead people has the advantage of its star, comic phenom Ricky Gervais. Pestered by a deceased Greg Kinnear, he finds himself falling for the dead guy's wife (Tea Leoni), who is at least a match for him in the area of comedic chops.
PG-13, 103 minutes
