"Preggatinis," by Natalie Bovis-Nelsen (Globe Pequot Press, $16.95)
So you're expecting a child but you love the taste of martinis. How to reconcile the two? (Oh, the dilemmas modern women face.) Not to worry. This book offers recipes for 75 "lip-smacking, liquorless libations" designed to help with your impregnation celebration. We're hoping the book is successful, if only so we can read the possible future titles "Preggaciggies" and "Preggacappuccinos."
"101 Things To Do With Meatballs," by Stephanie Ashcraft (Gibbs Smith, $9.99)
Publishers really shouldn't tempt us with giant softball titles like this one. Invariably, it invites us to think up naughty, sarcastic, unfit-for-family-newspaper ideas to add to the list. With that caveat, we'll say that the first 101 things-to-do with what the Portuguese call esferas da carne are quite dandy, from the Meatball Jalapeno Poppers to the Meatball Chowder and the Feta Meatballs with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce. We will admit to being juvenile enough to laugh at the unfortunately titled Blue Cheese Buffalo Balls. There. We said it aloud. Deal with it.
"One-Pot Meals," by Elizabeth Yarnell (Broadway, $17.95)
Yarnell devised these 100 or so nutritionally balanced recipes as a response to the multiple sclerosis diagnosis she received near her 30th birthday. Her reasoning: Creating healthy, quick meals would allow her to better control what she was putting in her body. A side benefit: One-pot meals require the fewest number of pots to make. Can't wait to stink up the house with the mouth-watering Pistachio Halibut dish.
