BRADENTON - A 32-year-old man trying to talk to his ex-girlfriend this morning at a Bradenton home shot another man at the residence before turning the gun on himself, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
The shooter died at the scene from an apparent suicide, investigators say. The have not notified his family yet and have not released his name.
Chris Sharts, 32, was shot in the upper body and was listed in critical condition this afternoon at Bayfront Medical Center.
Deputies say the man who shot Sharts went to the home at 78th Street West in Bradenton about 10:30 a.m. to talk with Melissa Swafford, his former girlfriend. The man then confronted Sharts about his relationship with Swafford before pulling out a gun, the sheriff's office said.
A 3-year-old girl, 6-year-old boy and a 17-year-old babysitter were at the home at the time of the shooting, but they were not hurt, the sheriff's office said.
The investigation is ongoing.
