Emergency responders called this afternoon to a possible domestic disturbance upgraded the incident to a structure fire after the woman living at the home called 911 and told dispatchers her boyfriend was trying to set the house ablaze, authorities say.
Heavy smoke and fire was coming from the single story wood frame house at 4600 14th Ave. S. when firefighters arrived about 4:30 p.m., St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue Lt. Joel Granata said.
The front bedroom and back bedroom were fully involved, Granata said. The fire was under control within 15 minutes.
St. Petersburg police officers arrested a man who lived at the house, authorities say. A woman and her 16-year-old son also lived there, Granata said. Police have not released the names of the three residents.
The woman had called 911 shortly before 4:30 p.m. and accused her boyfriend of assaulting her, authorities say.
Investigators remain at the scene to determine the cause of the fire. A canine unit is being used to detect flammable liquids, Granata said.
Damage is estimated at $40,000.
