A 74-year-old patient at Mease-Dunedin Hospital was arrested Monday afternoon, accused of pulling out a gun and pointing it at a nurse, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Another nurse was able to disarm Paul Schein of Dunedin and hospital security detained him until deputies arrived, the sheriff's office said.
Schein was a patient in the critical care unit of the hospital at 601 Main St., Dunedin, authorities say. They did not say why Schein was in the hospital.
Schein was charged with attempted murder. Although he was arrested, he will not be booked into Pinellas County Jail until he is medically cleared, the sheriff's office said.
