ST. PETERSBURG - In an attempt to identify a suspect, St. Petersburg police this morning released a video of a robbery in which a sawed-off shotgun was used.
The robbery was at the Game Stop at 3942 Tyrone Blvd. N. at 10 p.m. Dec. 19, said Jennifer Dawkins, a St. Petersburg police spokeswoman.
The suspect was described as having light skin and could possibly be of Indian descent, Dawkins said. He is in his mid- or late 20s, and was wearing a dark baseball cap and a long leather coat.
At first, he appeared to be shopping at the store for about an hour before approaching the checkout counter, Dawkins said.
The surveillance video captures him talking with employees while prominently displaying his credit card and then putting the card away, she said. Then the suspect reached under his jacket and pulled out a sawed-off shotgun before ordering the employees to put into a bag merchandise he had picked out, along with the cash in the cash register, she said.
The suspect then took the two employees into a back room and locked them in the bathroom before he left the store, she said. Neither of the employees was injured.
Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at (727) 893-7780.
