A body was found today in the burned-out remains of a car belonging to the subject of a Silver Alert, Lakeland police officials said.
The car was found by a K-9 unit in a wooded area behind Tiger Town, 2220 N. Lake Ave., Lakeland, according to Jack Gillen, a Lakeland police spokesman. Inside was a body burned beyond recognition.
Further investigation found the blue Ford Taurus belonged to Robert H. Taber, 80, who was the subject of a Silver Alert issued Monday, Gillen said.
The vehicle and the remains have been taken to the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office for investigation.
