A Largo man was arrested Monday in a hit-and-run involving his pickup, a 73-year-old bicyclist and a car driven by a 71-year-old man, according to the Pinellas County Sherriff's Office.
John A. Loudermilk, 37, of 1201 Seminole Blvd., Apt. 367, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and reckless driving involving property damage or injury. Bail was set at $10,250.
About 9:25 a.m. Dec. 23, Loudermilk was driving a Ford F-150 pickup on the Tom Stuart Causeway in Madeira Beach when the truck went over a curb near Duhme Road, Sgt. Jim Bordner said.
The right side mirror struck 73-year-old bicyclist Joseph Marcelli, who was riding on the sidewalk, Bordner said. Marcelli, a visitor from Canada, was able to stop the bicycle without falling, Bordner said.
The truck then hit a utility pole and a Mercury driven by 71-year-old Donald Hunt of Seminole, Bordner said.
Loudermilk's truck then stopped, and he left on foot, Bordner said.
The truck and its contents led deputies to Loudermilk, Bordner said.
Hunt refused to be treated by paramedics, Bordner said.
Marcelli told deputies he was so shaken up that he could not judge the extent of injury to his back, Bordner said.
