BRANDON - Piccadilly Cafeteria, an institution on State Road 60 for more than 21 years, closed its doors for good on Christmas Eve.
Angele Anson, senior marketing director for Piccadilly Restaurants in Baton Rouge, said the economic downturn forced the company's decision to close the restaurant, noted for its Southern home-style buffet and meal discounts for senior citizens and children.
The Brandon eatery was the only location in the nationwide chain to close, Anson said. The company has no plans to close more of its approximately 120 other restaurants, including those on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa and 34th Street North in St. Petersburg.
Piccadilly's regional manager, Frank Frantom, in a written statement issued today, said the company is trying to relocate displaced employees to other restaurants.
