TAMPA - Police charged a man and a female preschool teacher with felony child neglect after finding them driving around with a "gallon-size" bag of marijuana and their 5-month-old daughter, arrest affidavits state.
James Albert Furman, 26, and Kimberly Ann Vreland, 32, of 13915 Pathfinder Drive, also are charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Vreland also was charged with driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor, records show.
Tampa police arrested the couple at 9:18 p.m. Monday in the 3800 block of West Pearl Avenue after the vehicle ran a stop sign at North Dale Mabry Highway, affidavits state. Both were released from a county jail today. Furman's bail was $6,500 bail. Vreland's bail was $6,750 bail.
Their daughter is in the custody of child protective services, affidavits state.
Police say an officer stopped their 1998 Isuzu Rodeo and detected a strong odor of marijuana.
Inside the vehicle, police found a "gallon-size" bag of marijuana, a scale and sandwich-size plastic bags. They had about 3.7 ounces of marijuana, police said.
According to the affidavit, Furman told police he paid $400 for the marijuana and was trying to sell if for a profit.
Jail records list Vreland's employer as Childlife Preschool in Tampa. Johnette Robinson, the school's director, said today she was unaware of Vreland's arrest. The school has been closed since Christmas for the holidays.
