TAMPA - Crazy for crape myrtle? Got magnolia mania?
Swing by the Museum of Science & Industry on Jan. 10, where the Society of American Foresters will hold its annual tree seedling sale, offering some 1,600 young trees for sale.
The sale is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MOSI, 4801 E. Fowler Ave., as part of Florida's Arbor Day celebration. The national Arbor Day observance, which encourages tree planting and care, will be officially celebrated April 24.
At MOSI, foresters will offer tips on planting and caring for the seedlings. Varieties include Shumard oak, red maple, pignut hickory and Florida dogwood.
MOSI staff will plant 112 native trees in the museum's Back Woods Nature Preserve and Bioworks Butterfly Garden.
Grant money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service, the Florida Division of Forestry and the National Football League will pay for the trees. The project is part of a reforestation of the Tampa Bay Watershed to offset the impact of Super Bowl XLIII, taking place Feb. 1 at Raymond James Stadium.
