TAMPA - A local chain of walk-in clinics hopes to expand in the area under the new ownership of a larger West Virginia company.
Doctor's Walk-In Clinic, which has a headquarters in Tampa's West Shore district, has been acquired by MedExpress Urgent Care of Morgantown, W.Va. With the addition of the eight Doctor's Walk-In locations, the MedExpress now operates 35 clinics in Florida, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Colorado. Sale price and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Doctor's Walk-In Clinic was founded in 1980 by Stephen Dickey, a physician and former head of the emergency room at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Dickey will stay on with the new merged company to lead its operations in west central Florida.
The company hopes to continue expanding with the support of a larger company, said Dickey's son, Jason Dickey, director of operations for Doctor's Walk-In Clinic. Doctor's Walk-In Clinic had revenues of $16 million this year, Jason Dickey said.
