NEW PORT RICHEY - NEW PORT RICHEY - One person was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck at Little Road and King Helie Boulevard this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Denise A. Dennis, 35, of 4718 Blossom Drive, Holiday, died after her 2003 Kia minivan was struck head-on by a 2003 Toyota Land Rover driven by Ronald L. Gramling, 36, of Largo, the highway patrol said. The wreck happened about 11:18 a.m., records said.
According to the highway patrol:
Gramling "failed to maintain control" of the sport utility vehicle as he was traveling south on Little. The vehicle went across the median and into the northbound lanes, where Dennis was entering a left-turn lane. She died at the scene.
Gramling was ejected from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Bayflite helicopters were grounded because of bad weather, Pasco Fire Rescue said. Gramling's condition was not immediately available this afternoon.
Witnesses are asked to call Cpl. R.J. Kraus of the highway patrol at 1-800-235-6019.
