Tribune handicapper Michael David picks today's races at Tampa Bay Downs:

RACE 1: (7) Sheng, should improve at today's shorter distance; (8) Cliff's Gold, beaten favorite in last takes major class drop; (2) Clutch Hitter, flashed speed in debut.

RACE 2: (5) Appealing Babe, solid effort in career debut; (4) Val's Gold, frontrunner may be best at this sprint distance; (8) Dancewiththemaster, dangerous if ready.

RACE 3: (3) Ponche Line, last race his best; (1) Incredible Play, been facing much tougher foes; (8) Premier Court, 3-for-3 in the money at this distance.

RACE 4: (8) Asheba's Glitter, poor start, then finished fast; (4) Lucky Day, seven-wide when third; (5) Lightning Point, speedster might be tough to catch.

RACE 5: (7) Italian Fisherman, best races have been on the lawn; (3) Famously, will be fitter in second start off the layoff; (8) Hit Another Gear, chance for a share.

RACE 6: (1) Fizzy Pop, very sharp now, winner of two of last three; (8) Big Tex, usually in the mix; (7) Three Cities, just missed in fast-run race.

RACE 7: (1) Dealofthecentury, first start for sharp barn; (5) Jezreeh, back in with own kind; (9) Tattooed Lady, shipper is a good fit with these.

RACE 8: (2) Mystic Soul, been facing stakes company; (5) The Lady Waffles, in the money in last six tries; (3) Lady Renaissance, stretch runner in excellent form.

RACE 9: (4) Optimistic, good try in defeat; (7) Mi Compadre, working fast and steady for his return; (6) Back to Back Jacks, might be ready to end seconditis.

RACE 10: (14) Emirates to Dubai, the one to beat if he draws in from the also-eligible list; (8) A Little Halo Joy, good Tampa record; (3) My Buddy Richie, always comes to run.

RACE 11: (10) Fearless Folly, runner-up in last two; (9) Dixie Queen, drops in class to graduate; (8) Zavata's Trick, finished third in career debut.

COMMON CENTS (today's best bet): (2) Mystic Soul in Race 8 - Can bounce back from a poor effort in Miami when returning from a layoff. Has a easier task today after facing some of the top turf runners in the country.
