The YMCA considers itself the place for family fun, and earlier this week it was the place to delve into other cultures, too. The James P. Gills Family YMCA, 8411 Photonics Drive in Trinity, offered a variety of activities Wednesday to emphasize how the world is interconnected.
YMCA members and staff circled names of European countries in a word search puzzle; worked on a 600-piece jigsaw puzzle of the planet; perused items at an international market; learned about languages; shared food such as Portuguese linguisa peppers and onions at a potluck lunch; and were entertained by young jazz and tap dancers.
Other programs at the Gills facility include: a father/daughter dinner and dance on Feb. 16; Parents' Night Out the first Friday of the month; Family Fun Night the third Friday of the month; swimming lessons from April through October; fitness sessions for pre- and post-natal moms, healthy hearts, advanced exercisers, body flexing, women's weight training, runners and walkers, indoor cycling, quickness, agility and speed enhancement; soccer, flag football, volleyball, baseball, basketball and other sports; karate classes; social clubs and other adult activities; teen clubs, tournaments and movies; Tiny Tots Cheerleading Squad; and the Kids' Zone.
