PHOENIX - The New York Giants have a good reason to be optimistic about WR Plaxico Burress' health, but the team is also concerned.
Burress did not practice again Friday and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game because of his injured right ankle and left knee swelling. He did not fully participate in practice once this week.
"He did run a few things in individual," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "He ran a couple of slants. He took a play in the green zone and that was about all we did with him."
However, New York's encouraging sign is Burress was not in the training room Friday. Burress stretched and warmed up with his teammates, plus ran a few routes to test his legs.
Burress has been dealing with ankle problems this season, while his left knee has had problems off and on, leaving Coughlin optimistic his receiver will play.
"He's done it all year under all kinds of circumstances. We've just got to be hopeful he can do it one more time," Coughlin said.
In addition, DE Osi Umenyiora missed Friday's practice with a sore thigh and is listed as probable. CB Kevin Dockery, who missed four of the past five games with a hip flexor, had his second consecutive full day of practice and is probable. G Rich Seubert, who injured a knee in the second half of the NFC Championship Game, had his second full day of practice this week and is also probable.
LET THE HITS BEGIN: New York RB Brandon Jacobs knows running over players often excites his teammates, and that is his plan Sunday.
"I believe in setting the tone and I think it really works," Jacobs said. "If we can come out and get that done early and accomplish that right off the bat, I think we'll have a pretty good chance because guys will be pumped up. They see their teammate can set the tone and they just have to go out and keep it going."
FEAGLES HAS A PRICE: Giants P Jeff Feagles will not only be the oldest player (41) to ever participate in a Super Bowl, but he also might be the smartest.
Feagles used to wear No. 10 before QB Eli Manning joined the team four years ago. He gave up that number in exchange for Manning's purchase of one week of vacation in Florida for Feagles' family.
When Burress joined the team three years ago, he wanted Feagles' No. 17, which was sold to him for an outdoor kitchen.
"I think I'm a little bit more smart than lucky when it comes to those moves," Feagles said. "That's the good business side of being a football player."
