BRADENTON - Top-seeded Keswick Christian held Bradenton St. Stephen's to five second-half points en route to a 67-20 win Friday night.
The Crusaders (22-3), who showed 10 days of rest had done their legs good, racked up 34 points on fast-break buckets and will meet Northside Christian (22-6) in today's Class 2A-District 11 final.
"We're not too deep, and my kids have played a lot of minutes this season," Keswick coach Karrmayne King said. "Their legs were a little bit tired, so the 10 days was really a good break for us. They came out really hungry to play."
Three Chargers had 10 points in the second half: leading scorer Kate Carl, who finished with 20, Cassie Foster and Haylee Hehl, who finished the night with 13 points, just six shy of the 1,000 mark for her career.
During the evening's early matchup, a young Northside Christian team battled a second-half shooting slump and composure issues before topping Shorecrest Prep 53-38. The Mustangs led by as many as 24 during the second quarter, and took a 40-28 lead into halftime.
Things were a bit different in the second half. The Chargers (12-10) put a stop to Northside's fast break with an effective full-court press, and whittled the lead down to nine points during a 15-0 run to start the third.
Northside scored its first points of the quarter midway through thanks to a free throw from forward Kayla Walton. She'd get the next points with 1:20 remaining on a pair of free throws, and finished with a team-high 14 points.
