According to a veteran voice on the British sports scene, Manchester United fans are finally warming up to the Glazer family.
When Bucs owner Malcolm Glazer purchased the Premier League club in 2005, there was considerable backlash in the United Kingdom as some soccer fans questioned his ultimate intentions.
"There was a fear of the unknown at the time, but we have seen stability and the club has had great success under the Glazers," said Nick Halling, an analyst for Sky Sports, which televised 135 live NFL games in 2007. "Money is piling into the soccer club and all the questions seem to have been answered."
Despite the on-field success of Manchester United, the club's chief executive, David Gill, returned home 10 days ago to find his house trashed by vandals evidently unhappy with the ownership group.
"In every football club in the world, you've got a lunatic fringe of fans who are always going to complain," Halling said. "If Man U. had suffered a noticeable drop-off in form under the Glazers, you could understand the frustration of supporters, but that hasn't been the case."
