Black Has Huge 2nd Half To Lift Spartans

TAMPA - Tampa used a 22-point, 12-rebound second-half performance by Jeremy Black to defeat No. 14 Rollins 83-68 in men's basketball Saturday.

Rollins (16-4, 5-4 Sunshine State) ended the first half on a roll as it turned a 26-21 Tampa (14-4, 7-2) lead at 4:20 to a 32-26 halftime lead as it outscored UT 15-0.

The Spartans outscored Rollins 57-36 in the second half, fueled by Black's effort. He finished with team highs in points (29) and rebounds (20). Black went 8-for-12 from the field and 11-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Johnathan Ball added 17 points for the Spartans while Chris King and Chris Evans also scored in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Mounir Benzegala led Tampa with a team-high four assists while playing just eight minutes in the first half. Ball paced UT with four steals.

SAINT LEO 92, PALM BEACH ATLANTIC 78: Sophomore guard Quentin Cullop scored a career-high 23 points and Jordan Prais added a double-double with a team-high 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead host Saint Leo (10-9) past Palm Beach Atlantic (3-19).

Tampa Women Complete Season Sweep Of Rollins

TAMPA - Tampa won its second game this season against defending Sunshine State Conference champion Rollins with a 55-52 triumph Saturday afternoon.

Rollins (10-8, 2-7 SSC) got out to a 12-11 lead before Tampa (15-4, 7-2) kicked it into gear as the Spartans went on an 11-4 run in a six-minute span. Tampa held on to the lead to take a 29-23 advantage to the half.

The Spartans stretched the second-half lead to double figures at the 4:16 mark at 50-39. The Tars outscored Tampa 13-5 in the final four minutes. Up 53-52, Tampa's Sheena Walton was fouled with six seconds left and proceeded to make both shots. A game-tying 3 with one second remaining by Rollins' Jennifer Musgrove was off.

Tampa was led by Alexa Kane, who scored a game-high 17 points while Tiara Cook gave UT a lift off the bench with a season-high 10 points. Sheena Walton led Tampa with nine rebounds and four blocks.

Kane, Walton, Angela Guiu and Brittany Ridley each led Tampa with three assists.
