LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of South Florida women's basketball team looked to end its longest Big East Conference road trip of the season on a winning note, but Louisville was too much as the Cardinals took an 87-51 victory Saturday night at Freedom Hall.
Louisville (15-7, 4-5 Big East) jumped to a 10-0 lead just less than two minutes into the game and never looked back.
USF got four straight free throws by Melissa Dalembert and Shantia Grace before Brittany Denson hit the team's first field goal of the game on a driving jumper from the right side with 14:55 left in the first half.
The Cardinals extended their lead to 25 points on a layup by Courtney Simmons with 5:34 left before halftime.
Louisville took a commanding 50-27 lead into the locker room.
USF shot just 28.6 percent (8-for-28) from the field in the first half, including 23.1 percent (3-for-13) from behind the 3-point arc. In addition, the Bulls were dominated on the boards, being outrebounded 30-14 and 12-4 on the offensive glass.
The Cardinals shot 55.0 percent (22-for-40) from the floor in the first half.
The Cardinals pushed the lead to 33 points with 16:09 left on a 3-pointer by Brandie Radde and then to a game-high 39 points on a layup by Keshia Hines with 1:09 left.
USF shot 25.6 percent (10-for-39) from the field in the second half.
For the game, Louisville outrebounded USF 52-36, and the Cardinals controlled the lane, outscoring the Bulls 54-16.
Jazmine Sepulveda led the Bulls with 10 points while Gianna Messina and Grace each added nine points. Dalembert added seven points and 11 rebounds.
The Bulls return to the Sun Dome on Tuesday to face DePaul at 7 p.m.
