GIBSONTON - Jason Johnson of Eunice, La., used his outside front row starting spot to win the Ronald Laney Memorial on Saturday, as East Bay Raceway Park completed three nights of the O'Reilly ASCS Sprint Car Winternationals.
"Winning the Ronald Laney Memorial means a lot to me, as I grew up watching Ron run. Wearing his crown tonight is a great honor," Johnson said. "I just got back from running in Australia and it took some getting used to these smaller tires."
Johnson won the $10,000 first-prize check, along with the C & B Mushroom Farms $500 bonus for being the highest-finishing car carrying the C & B sticker. Also as winner of the event, he was presented with a three-day, two-night cruise.
Gary Wright finished second; third went to Terry McCarl of Altoona, Iowa, while fourth place went to Travis Rilat of Forney, Texas. Kenny Adams of Malabar rounded out the top five.
The Prevatt Farms Strawberry Dash-4-Cash was won by Ryan Bickett of Ramona, S.D.
Florida Mini-Sprints crowned its three-day champion, Travis Senter, Jr., of Osceola, Ark.
