DURHAM, N.C. - DeMarcus Nelson scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half to lead No. 3 Duke past Miami, 88-73, on Saturday.
Greg Paulus scored 16 points for the Blue Devils (19-1, 7-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their ninth straight by scoring on nine of their first 10 possessions of the second half to successfully sidestep a possible trap with Wednesday night's visit to archrival North Carolina looming.
James Dews scored 15 for Miami (15-6, 2-5), which has lost two straight and five of six, but kept things tight for most of the first half.
After the break, Nelson took control. The Duke captain scored 10 points during a dominating three-minute stretch early in the half, starting the scoring with a steal and a fast-break layup the first time the Blue Devils had the ball and later hitting field goals on four straight possessions.
No. 1 Memphis Edges UTEP, Improves To 21-0
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Chris Douglas-Roberts scored with 2:31 left to break a 60-all tie, and top-ranked Memphis remained the country's only undefeated team by pulling out a 70-64 win against UTEP (13-7, 4-3 Conference USA).
The Tigers (21-0, 7-0) are enjoying their best start ever, topping the 20-win start by the 1985-86 squad. They also extended the nation's longest homecourt winning streak to 44.
KANSAS 72, COLORADO 59: No. 2 Kansas (21-1, 6-1 Big 12) overcame a slow start thanks to Darnell Jackson's 18 points and turned back host Colorado's upset bid (9-12, 1-6) in the Jayhawks' first game since their perfect season was ended by Kansas State.
Brandon Rush added 15 points and Sasha Kaun 12 for the Jayhawks, who had a hard time shaking off the doldrums from their first loss of the season, an 84-75 shocker to their in-state rival Wednesday night.
UCLA 82, ARIZONA 60: Freshman Kevin Love had 26 points and 11 rebounds for his 13th double-double and No. 5 UCLA (20-2, 8-1 Pac-10) routed visiting Arizona (15-7, 5-4).
The Bruins built a 20-point halftime lead and cruised on 57 percent field goal shooting. Russell Westbrook added a career-high 21 points, Josh Shipp 13 and Darren Collison 12 and seven assists as the Bruins won their fourth in a row.
GEORGETOWN 73, SETON HALL 61: Jessie Sapp had 17 points, reserve Patrick Ewing Jr. scored 11 of his career-high 16 in the second half, and No. 6 Georgetown (18-2, 8-1 Big East) overcame an uneven performance to beat visiting Seton Hall (15-7, 5-4) for its fifth straight victory.
Roy Hibbert added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Hoyas, who committed a season-high 21 turnovers but still improved to 11-0 at home with their fourth straight win against the Pirates. Georgetown has won 10 of 11 overall.
TENNESSEE 76, MISSISSIPPI STATE 71: Chris Lofton scored 20 points and JaJuan Smith added 15 as No. 7 Tennessee (19-2, 6-1 SEC) turned back a late rally to beat host Mississippi State (14-7, 5-2).
The Vols have won 15 of their last 16 and four in a row against Mississippi State.
PENN STATE 85, MICHIGAN STATE 76: Stanley Pringle scored 19 points and host Penn State (11-10, 3-6 Big Ten) went 16-for-20 from the free-throw line in the closing minutes to upend No. 8 Michigan State (19-3, 7-2) and snap the Spartans' five-game winning streak.
Talor Battle had 17 points and David Jackson added nine - all from the free-throw line - as the Nittany Lions scored their first win against a ranked team in two years.
STANFORD 67, WASHINGTON STATE 65: Robin Lopez hit a spinning layup with 12 seconds left in overtime to lift No. 14 Stanford (18-3, 7-2 Pac-10) to a victory at No. 9 Washington State (17-4, 5-4).
Washington State had a chance to tie in the closing seconds when Taylor Rochestie took the inbound pass and drove the length of the floor. But his layup bounced off the rim and Stanford won its fifth consecutive game.
TEXAS 80, BAYLOR 72: Damion James came off the bench to score 17 points and grab eight rebounds, and No. 10 Texas (17-4, 4-2 Big 12) rallied to win at No. 25 Baylor (16-4, 4-2).
A.J. Abrams added 20 points for the Longhorns, who have won 21 in a row against the Bears. Texas hasn't lost to Baylor since the 1997-98 season. Baylor was led by Kevin Rogers with 20 points.
XAVIER 75, LA SALLE 62: C.J. Anderson scored 16 points in Xavier's balanced offense, and the 15th-ranked Musketeers overcame a sloppy performance for a win vs. visiting La Salle (8-12, 3-4 Atlantic 10).
Xavier (18-4, 6-1) has won 10 of its last 11 and leads the Atlantic 10. Six players finished in double figures for Xavier, which went 22-of-29 from the line.
DRAKE 83, INDIANA STATE 77: Adam Emmenecker scored a season-high 20 points, and No. 16 Drake (20-1, 11-0 Missouri Valley) defeated host Indiana State (10-11, 5-6).
Josh Young scored 18 points and Leonard Houston added 16 for the Bulldogs, who won their 19th straight.
MARQUETTE 75, CINCINNATI 60: Lazar Hayward scored 19 points - his second big game in a row - and No. 17 Marquette (16-4, 6-3 Big East) finally got one on the road, a win against Cincinnati (10-12, 5-5).
Hayward had a career-high 23 points in his last game, a 62-54 win against South Florida. Ousmane Barro added a season-high 19 points.
CONNECTICUT 60, PITTSBURGH 53: A.J. Price scored 21 points and host Connecticut (16-5, 6-3 Big East) closed the game on a 9-2 run for a victory against No. 18 Pittsburgh (17-5, 5-4), the Huskies' fifth straight win.
Craig Austrie's 3-pointer with 2:03 to play gave Connecticut a 54-51 lead. After Gilbert Brown made two of three free throws for the Panthers with 1:42 to go, Price scored on a drive with 1:09 left and then added two free throws with 37 seconds left for a 58-53 lead.
VANDERBILT 78, AUBURN 71: A.J. Ogilvy scored 19 points to lead No. 19 Vanderbilt (18-3, 3-4 SEC) past visiting Auburn (12-8, 2-5).
The Commodores snapped a two-game losing streak and won for the first time in two weeks.
Auburn's Frank Tolbert scored a career-high 32 points. Alex Gordon added 17 points for Vanderbilt, while Shan Foster scored 16.
MISSOURI 77, KANSAS STATE 74: J.T. Tiller scored a career-high 20 points, including two key free throws with six seconds left, helping short-handed Missouri (13-9, 3-4) overcome recent suspensions in the wake of a nightclub altercation to shock No. 22 and visiting Kansas State (15-5, 6-1 Big 12).
Leo Lyons, reinstated along with reserve forward Marshall Brown before the game, added 13 points, five assists and four rebounds for Missouri.
TEXAS A&M 60, OKLAHOMA 52: Joseph Jones scored 18 points to lead No. 23 Texas A&M (18-4, 4-3 Big 12) to a win in a defensive battle with visiting Oklahoma (15-6, 3-3).
It was the third straight win for Texas A&M and breaks a three-game winning streak for Oklahoma.
SOUTH CAROLINA 80, MISSISSIPPI 77: Dominique Archie scored 20 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 5.9 seconds left, and visiting South Carolina (11-10, 2-5 SEC) upset No. 24 Mississippi (16-4, 3-4).
Devan Downey led the Gamecocks with 25 points, and capped the win with a pair of technical foul free throws with 1.1 seconds left. South Carolina has won two straight after knocking off Georgia.
