Robinson's wrestling team had a great showing at the Class 1A-District 10 tournament at Admiral Farragut, but the Knights came up just short of claiming a district title.
Robinson had four individual champions, four individual runners-up and advanced 13 wrestlers to next week's region tournament, but Clearwater Central Catholic, which also advanced 13 wrestlers to the regional tournament and had seven individual district champions, managed to take home the team title with 219 points, 27 more than the runner-up Knights.
"It wasn't about the trophy, because we're not taking a trophy with us to Naples next week for the regional tournament," Robinson coach Tommy Montero said. "Trophies are secondary to those 13 guys getting through. That's what I'm proud of most."
Matt Willis (119 pounds), Joe Geerholt (125), Zach Boyer (130) and Ellis St. John (189) each claimed individual titles for the Knights, while Chris Rollins (112), Mike Grimmett (135), Eric Williams (140) and David Canchola (171) finished as individual runners-up.
Montero was especially pleased with his four freshman regional qualifiers - Dominic Bertucci (103), Christian Padilla (160), Andrew Meddaugh (285) and Grimmett - and what it says about the program's future.
Cory List (103), Chris Owens (135), Bobby Zagers (140), Ryan Alberdi (152), Nick Dierlam (160), Alex Paige (171) and Kyle Rettig (285) won individual titles for the Marauders.
Berkeley Prep, which finished fifth among the eight teams, advanced five wrestlers to next week's region tournament, including individual runner-ups Ryan Pickren (125) and Mark Timmel (152).
